Anwar Ali will be expecting his 10th appearance in Hero Indian Super League 2016 when Mumbai City FC host Kerala Blasters FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. Mumbai have one of the best defensive records in the league this season and centre-back Ali has played his part in that to a tee. The 32-year-old has been rock solid in defence as Mumbai have conceded just eight goals in 11 games. Ahead of the match against Kerala, Ali spoke to indiansuperleague.com and shared his thoughts. Here are excerpts from the interview. You have secured three clean sheets in your last five matches. What are your thoughts on that?I wouldn’t want to give all the credit to the defence. It’s for the whole team because when we are attacking or defending, the whole team is doing that together. Because in a league it’s very important not to concede goals, so I’m glad we have been able to keep clean sheets.Amrinder Singh has returned to the squad and he had a good game against FC Goa. What do you have to say about that? It’s a very good thing that in his first match this season he managed to get a clean sheet. It’s very good for his confidence. Even Albino Gomes was performing well. Roberto Volpato obviously is one of the best goalkeepers in the ISL, so I’m very happy that Amrinder got a clean sheet in his first game.Working under Alexandre Guimares, how has the experience been?He is really very nice. The first thing he did is that he brought the team together, which is very important for a team. The practice has been very good, the way he talks is also very nice. He always gives a chance to those who deserve to play. It’s not at all like how I had noticed in the first two seasons of the ISL that Indian and foreign players were not gelling well. Also, Indians were not getting priority. It’s not like that right now, it’s all because of the coach. He has brought all of us together.Mumbai FC came close to getting a result against FC Goa, so how are you planning to keep up the momentum against Kerala Blasters? The game that we played against Goa… the best thing was the number of chances we created. I don’t think we’ve ever created as many chances before, which is a very positive thing, and obviously in the coming matches if we continue to create as many chances as we did against Goa, it will be a very good thing for the team and I would want us to continue doing that, not missing as many (smiles) and trying our best to convert those chances.CK Vineeth has shined for Kerala Blasters in their last two matches. Do you have any special plans for him?No special plan as such. The coach also hasn’t told us anything specifically but we have to defend well as they are a very good team but I’m very happy for him since he is helping his team out. He is in very good form and has managed to score thrice in their last two games.
