Hero Indian Super League 2016 has seen the gulf in on-pitch time between domestic players and foreigners lessen significantly. In fact, one look at the top 10 reveals that the top two players to have clocked the most number of minutes on the pitch are Indians, which goes to show that domestic players are playing their part and not just making up the numbers. With four Indians amongst the top 10, it is clear that domestic talents are now on the pitch based on merit. Here are the top 10 players to have clocked the most game-time this season.Souvik Chakraborty (Delhi Dynamos FC, 1260 minutes in 14 appearances): Delhi Dynamos’ versatile defender Souvik Chakraborty is the only player this season to have played each and every minute for his team. He has been an integral part of the back four and has helped keep things tight. Strong and difficult to deceive, his performances on the field have earned him credibility, and no wonder head coach Gianluca Zambrotta has stuck with him from the start of the third edition. He will be crucial to Delhi’s chances when the Lions play Kerala Blasters in the semi-finals.Sandesh Jhingan (Kerala Blasters FC, 1248 minutes in 14 appearances): Centre-back Sandesh Jhingan has been a key figure at the back for the Blasters from Season 1. This season has been no different as he has kept things steady and has always stood strong when it comes to dealing with tight situations. He had a rare off day when his team was drubbed 5-0 at Mumbai, leading to his substitution in the 75th minute.Cedric Hengbart (Kerala Blasters FC, 1237 minutes in 14 appearances): Alongside Jhingan, 36-year-old Cedric Hengbart has been rock solid at the back, making important tackles and clearances, besides scoring once and turning provider twice. Coach Steve Coppell has shown plenty of faith in the Frenchman to great return. Hengbart has been substituted just once in the entire league stage, in Kerala’s 0-0 draw with Delhi (in the 64th minute).Lucian Goian (Mumbai City FC, 1234 minutes in 14 appearances): The 33-year-old has been at the heart of Mumbai’s defence that has conceded the least number of goals (8), a league record at this stage. There have been a record eight clean sheets too. The Romanian centre-back also has a goal to his name and his tackling and interceptions have been precise. His only substitution came in the 65th minute during Mumbai’s 1-0 defeat at Kerala.Krisztian Vadocz (Mumbai City FC, 1232 minutes in 14 appearances): Krisztian Vadocz has been Mumbai’s main player pulling the strings from midfield. He has been clinical with passes and finishing, having three goals to his credit. On the pitch, he has created a host of opportunities for his team. He has been substituted just on one occasion: in the 62nd minute of Mumbai’s last match of the league stage against Delhi, which ended 0-0.Jonatan Lucca (FC Pune City, 1226 minutes in 14 appearances): Although Pune did not qualify for the knock-out stage, one of their standout main-stays in the middle of the park has been Jonatan Lucca. He has created a number of goal scoring opportunities for his team, being one of the three players alongside Delhi Dynamos’ duo of Marcelinho and Florent Malouda to have the highest number of assists so far this season (5). The Brazilian was taken off twice during his stint with the Stallions, against NorthEast United FC (away) and Kerala Blasters FC (away).Debjit Majumder (Atlético de Kolkata, 1170 minutes in 13 appearances): Kolkata shot-stopper Debjit Majumder has had a fine season between the sticks for the 2014 champions. He has been calm and composed and has made some splendid saves throughout Kolkata’s campaign, including a penalty from Florent Malouda. The 28-year-old custodian was rested only for ATK’s last match of the league stage against Pune.Mehrajuddin Wadoo (Chennaiyin FC, 1170 minutes in 13 appearances): Chennaiyin FC defender Mehrajuddin Wadoo may not have been able to guide his team to a third semi-final appearance, but he has played his heart out for the Super Machans. He did his defensive duties well besides scoring and providing once each. Rarely outfoxed, the 38-year-old has been one of the few positives for Marco Materazzi’s men in an otherwise disappointing season.Mohamed Sissoko (FC Pune City, 1170 minutes in 13 appearances): The only marquee player in this list, Mohamed Sissoko did his best to help the Stallions’ cause but it wasn’t enough. Be that as it may, he has been noticeable both in attack and defence. With two goals this season, he has definitely been one of the few positives for Antonio Habas’ men.Edel Bete (FC Pune City, 1170 minutes in 13 appearances): Pune’s goalkeeper Edel Bete has had a busy season this time around. Although his team did not qualify for the semi-finals, he has made the highest number of saves as of now (46). Pune have leaked 16 goals this season but Bete should be least blamed as it was more down to the defenders’ poor showing.
