Florent Malouda has been an inspirational presence on the pitch for Delhi Dynamos FC in Hero Indian Super League 2016 and will be crucial to the Lions’ cause when they take on Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on Saturday. The former France international has been crucial in attack for the Dynamos, completing eight take-ons, nine crosses and 24 key passes. Malouda also boasts a passing accuracy of 74% and has scored three goals and provided five assists. The 36-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com in an exclusive interview ahead of the clash against Mumbai and discussed a variety of subjects. Here are the excerpts. The attacking brand that Delhi are playing right now hasn’t gone unnoticed, so as an experienced player how have you mentored the squad?Well, first it is a pleasure to be part of a squad that plays attacking football and as an experienced player I know that there is a need for balance to play attacking football and we have attacking players up front. It is important to keep that balance to keep creating opportunities and with the quality in the squad, that will not be a problem. Will it be a case of outscoring the opponents here tomorrow?I think exactly the opposite because both teams are attacking well, so I think tomorrow it will be between both defences and they have not conceded a lot of goals, which is their strength, and for us it about being good in defence. We have been able to score goals, so we are confident.Taking you back in time, how did you get involved in football?Football is in my DNA as my mom used to play football and even my father played football. I grew up in a football family and from childhood I have been a football player, and I love this game. You joined Chelsea from Lyon looking for new challenges. Now you are plying your trade in India, so does it mean Florent Malouda loves challenges in his career?Yes, I love challenges and I am always ready for it and for me wherever I play, in Wembley, Mumbai or when I play with my childhood friends, I play to compete, to have fun. I have had different objectives at different stages of my career and I take pleasure in it and I look forward to the next challenge. What is the standout moment for you in your national career?Well, it is difficult to pick but with the national team, I would say making the World Cup final in Germany and playing with legends like Zidane and Makelele was a great experience for me.Irrespective of various situations in the match, you somehow manage to remain dignified. How do you do this?I try to be honest. I have earned everything by working hard and I try not to compromise myself and I try to keep my integrity and dignity, and there is no price for that. As a man I want to be remembered and well-respected.
