Delhi Dynamos FC have added some much-needed firepower on their attacking front by signing up Dutch winger Jeroen Lumu for the upcoming season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). The departures of Marcelinho and Kean Lewis from their ranks had left a gaping hole as far as their strike force was concerned. But the introduction of the 22-year-old, who is also a former Netherlands U-17 and U-18 player, may have resolved that problem. When he was only 16, Lumu became the youngest scorer for his old club Willem II. He further plied his trade in Bulgaria, Austria and Turkey. Upon his recent signing, indiansuperleague.com caught up with Delhi’s newest recruit, where he shared his thoughts about his latest venture.Lumu, who is going to play outside Europe for the first time in his career, learnt about India and the ISL from fellow Dutchman and former Willem II teammate Hans Mulder, who had played for Chennaiyin FC last season. He also added that Mulder had only good things to say about the country, and he himself was looking forward to playing in the league.“This is my first time in India. I got information about Delhi from my former teammate Hans Mulder and he told me it is very good there. He knows me and he knows how I play so he just told me to do my thing. He also told me that everybody in India is very nice. It’s a good league and I am excited to come to India,” he said.Lumu also added that exploring new places is something he enjoys. “I am a culture man,” he revealed. “I like to go and see new things. So, it would be nice to come to India.”The Dutchman also seemed focused on his objectives as far as playing in the ISL is concerned.“I want to play as many games as possible. I will also try to score and help Delhi Dynamos win the title because that’s important,” he said confidently.Even the think-tank at Delhi Dynamos expressed delight at Lumu coming aboard. You guys have no idea how much I wanted Lumu. He's gonna be an absolute BEAST this year. I legit cried when we got the deal done— Rohan Sharma (@MrRohanSharma) September 12, 2017What about the Dynamos’ head coach? While Lumu admitted that he hasn’t spoken with Miguel Portugal yet, he spoke highly of the Spaniard, adding that the Dynamos’ new head coach would know how to play him in the team.“I didn’t have direct contact with him (Portugal),” he stated. “But he had spoken to other people and was telling them that he is looking forward to me coming there (to Delhi). I am also looking forward to coming there because he is a big coach. He knows what to do with me, the team and everything else.”While the player is versatile regarding his position in attack, he stressed that Portugal would figure out exactly where to play him. He was also well aware that his dribbling was his best weapon.“My strongest position is the right wing, but I can also strike with my left,” he shared. “So, I can also play as a No. 10, on the left, and basically everywhere in the forward line. My dribbling is my best quality, and I am just looking forward to the way he (Portugal) is going to use me. I will listen to him as he knows what to do.”The Dutchman also had a positive view of the ISL, and said that of late he heard a lot about how it was helping develop youngsters for the sport.“A lot of people talked to me about the ISL and that gave me confidence,” he admitted. “The ISL is a good platform for young players.”Will it be difficult for him adjusting to a whole new scenario though?“Football is the first thing that I do. I got used to playing football in different countries before, so I will get used to football in the ISL as well. The toughest part is the beginning of the season where you try to get used to everything. To begin with, everything is difficult, but as you get used to it, it is no longer difficult.”Lumu also had a warm message for the Delhi Dynamos and ISL fans who are eager to watch him in action soon.“I am very happy that they (the fans) are excited to have me in the ISL. They have placed their trust in me and I will pay back their trust in time,” he promised as we concluded our chat.Click here to view the Delhi Dynamos FC squad so far for the next ISL season.
