Sandip Nandy proved to be the star performer for Kerala Blasters FC as they beat Delhi Dynamos FC 3-0 in penalty shoot-out to reach the final of Hero Indian Super League 2016 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday evening. The match ended 2-1 in the hosts’ favour on the night and 2-2 on aggregate after extra time, giving way to penalties, in which Nandy played his part to a tee as all three of Delhi’s choices in Florent Malouda, Bruno Pelissari and Memo failed to hit the back of the net. The 41-year-old goalkeeper spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match and shared his thoughts on the win. Here are the excerpts from the interview.Congratulations, how does it feel to qualify for the final? It is a great experience. I can’t imagine we have won the game on penalties. Hats off to Delhi as they played a large part of the game with 10 men. They were absolutely fantastic. But I think the refereeing was not up to the mark, it was clearly evident that Malouda blocked me. It was a definite foul. I hope in the final this will not be the case. Were you under pressure in penalty shootout? They played with 10 men and still we couldn’t win [in 120 minutes]. As I said before the refereeing was not up to the mark and when such a game goes to penalties the opposition’s morale goes up. As a goalkeeper I tried my best to make the team win and I thank god because he was with us. Malouda, who was fantastic during the match and was a constant threat throughout the 120 minutes, ended up shooting over, which is unbelievable for a player of his calibre. I’m just happy that I could play my part in the win.Your fans are very passionate. There were quite a few in the crowd today. Do you have any message for them?I have always said that the fans are our strength and because of them we have reached the final. We couldn’t win it in the first year and I hope we can win it this year for our fans.
