Aaron Hughes was delighted as Kerala Blasters FC made it through to the final of Hero Indian Super League 2016 after beating Delhi Dynamos FC 3-0 in penalty shootout at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday. The men in yellow lost the match on the night as Delhi edged Kerala to a 2-1 win, however, both sides were tied at 2-2 on aggregate, meaning the game headed into extra time and then penalties. Kerala’s marquee player, Hughes completed the full 120 minutes as the Blasters defended resolutely to neutralise Delhi’s attack. The 37-year-old spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the game and shared his thoughts. Here are the excerpts from the interview. Please describe your emotions at this moment. We are over the moon. We came here and we knew that it would be a really tough game and it was, even with a man extra we were made to work extremely hard. It was a long game which went right down to the wire and with penalties, anything can happen. I’m just thrilled to be going back to Kochi for Sunday’s game. It’s going to be an amazing atmosphere, an amazing occasion. This is something we really wanted and got.You possibly have the most amazing fans in the league. And now you are playing the final in front of them. That must be special…It was an incentive for us, when it was announced [that the final will be held in Kochi]. It’s going to be an unbelievable occasion. I’ll imagine they will be in as soon as the doors open. We got a little taste of it last week in the first leg and I think it is going to be even better in the final on Sunday. We are totally delighted, we are going to the final and what makes it all the more special is that it’s in Kochi.Do you have any message for the fans?Tonight is just about enjoying this moment before we start thinking about Sunday. Enjoy this moment getting into the final because it has been a tough 14 league games and two semi-final games to get there. So first thing we do is enjoy tonight and enjoy the emotions that it conjures up and once we get sorted in the head and back to Kochi, then we start looking forward to Sunday. I don’t think the fans will need any encouragement, they know how to make noise and they will be at their best come Sunday.
