Michael Chopra returned from injury in Kerala Blasters FC’s 1-0 win in the first leg of the second semi-final of Hero Indian Super League 2016 against Delhi Dynamos FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday evening. Chopra came on in the second half after Kervens Belfort had put the hosts into the lead in the 65th minute. Chopra, who replaced Duckens Nazon in the 84th minute, look comfortable on the ball as the Blasters successfully ran down the clock to register an encouraging win in front of almost 50,000 fans. Chopra, who made a name for himself at Newcastle United, spoke to indiansuperleague.com after the match. Here are the excerpts from the interview. What do you have to say about the crowd today? As you could see today it really helped us. The lads were feeling tired but we kept going till the end because of these fans. It’s just so pleasing that we have managed to build a fortress here and we know that when we are playing at home we make it difficult for teams and we made it difficult for Delhi tonight. But we know that the tie is only half over. We know we have got a second leg, which will be tough.Delhi is a very attacking side but you still managed to shut them down. What was the secret? We didn’t worry about Delhi. It was more about what we can do, we know on our day we can hurt anyone and we proved it today. Obviously with Kervens, we know he does special things with the ball and he managed to score a great goal. But as I said before that this is just the first part of the job done, the second part is the tough one in Delhi. You came on late in the game, what was your role, what instructions were you given? The gaffer just told me to try to get on the ball and just to calm things down. With just a few minutes to go, we tried to keep it tight and hold on for 1-0 and we managed to do it. Our aim at the start of the season was to make it to the semis and now our aim is to make the final, and now we are one step closer. We now have to prepare properly as we have a big game coming up.What will be the strategy now going into the second leg?The management will sit down and watch this game again. They will look at what we did right and what we didn’t and also look at the strengths of Delhi again because they have got some great players in their team and if you switch off, they can cause you problems.
