A rampant FC Goa side ran out 5-2 winners against Kerala Blasters FC in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Sunday. The Spanish duo of Ferran Corominas - who bagged the league’s fastest hat-trick - and Manuel Lanzarote - who scored a brace - helped inflict a first defeat of the season on the Blasters. Addressing the media during the post-match press conference was Goa head coach, Sergio Lobera and Hero of the Match, Corominas.

Lobera began by heaping praise on his attack, while acknowledging the fact that the defence needs to tighten up. “We have scored many goals so far, so it is something that we should be proud of, and it is clear that we have attacking potency in the team,” he explained. “But yes, defence is something we need to work on, and I am not just talking about the backline, but a collective effort as a whole.”

The Spaniard also admitted that while he was delighted with the win, he was not getting carried away. “My next aim is Delhi,” he stated. “I am not looking too far ahead. It is important to focus on the next game and prepare in the best possible way. Having said that, I don’t want to be a let-down as such and dampen the excitement for the fans. But we need to keep our feet on the ground. Tonight, we will enjoy the win, but tomorrow we will get back to work.”

He also revealed that Berbatov’s exit due to an injury early on in the match never really changed their philosophy as they never focused on a single player. “A single player does not determine the game, so we never prepare ourselves while thinking about one particular player as such,” he explained. “Yes, the player was injured, but it did not change our mentality because we still needed to play according to our philosophy.”

Goa striker Ferran Corominas, when talking about his goals, also revealed that the hat-trick was a milestone in his career. “The chances came one after the other, and my aim was to just try to take advantage of the ones that were coming my way, and thankfully, they went in,” he said before adding, “It is not only the fastest hat-trick in the ISL, but also the fastest of my career.”

The Spaniard appeared to be injured after scoring his third goal, but before wrapping up he revealed that it was not a cause of concern. “There shouldn’t be any worry (about the knock),” he stated. “It was just a slight knock that I had when I clashed with the goalkeeper. I am having a bit of treatment, but it should not be anything big.”
